Today, the spider weaves a web of story and intrigue inside Children Fiction Book. Do you like spiders? This story of a spider can be part fiction and partially nonfiction.
After a hot summer, the spiders produced a bumper crop of baby spiders. The tiny spiders sought shelter in Mother’s home. There wasn’t a day that passed by without Mother discovering one spider or two crawling or spinning a web somewhere.
“Aargh! I hate spiders!” Mother was talking on the telephone with Granny. I caught the tail end of their conversation just as I was walking out the door for school. “What’s that? Conkers? You mean horse chestnuts? Oh, good, I’ll be sure to try them!”
The next thing I saw when I returned home from school was a bag of conkers on the kitchen counter.
Mother was at the ironing board.
“Mom, are we having horse chestnuts for dinner?”
“No, dear, they are for the spiders,” Mother smiled. “Grandma said we could keep spiders away from our house if we used conkers at the entrance of openings like windows and doors.”
“Cool! Have you spread them out yet?”
“No, would you like to help?”
“Yes, please!” With that, Jenny grabbed the bag of conkers and started going around the house, placing one conker at each window and doorway.
“Thank you for helping me, Jenny,” Mother smiled appreciatively at Jenny.
“If Jimmy was around, he’ll love to catch the spiders,” Jenny thought out loud. “I could even make a gift out of the spider, if I could ever catch one.”
“Well, you can try catching spiders if I run out of conkers!” Mother laughed at her fearless daughter.
