This is a nonfiction book story on how a child gets the condition called myopia. The short story is another one of those in Children Books.
Sarah always loved to watch TV. In fact, she would watch any program that captured her interest. But there was one small problem. Sarah could not sit upright to watch her TV.
Sarah used to love lying down on the couch or slouch in a funny position. Sarah’s mother used to warn her to sit up straight to watch TV. That advice fell on deaf ears.
The next day, Sarah invited her friends, Gina, Terry, Joanna and Crystal, to do their homework together.
“Maybe we should focus on page 16’s Math questions,” said Joanna.
Sarah said, “I thought it was page 18?”
“No, it was page 16!” said Crystal.
“I don’t know if it was 16 or 18,” said Sarah.
“I think you may be having myopia,” said Terry.
“Myopia? What’s that?” asked Sarah curiously.
“Myopia is when the eye can’t focus to see an object at a distance,” said Terry.
“Oh, no! What should I do to prevent myopia?” asked Sarah.
“Well, you should take a break after every 30 minutes of near eye work. You should go outdoors or look at far distances during your break,” said Gina.
“I think you should ask your Mum to bring you to the optician to test your eyesight. If necessary, the optician will prescribe spectacles for you,” said Terry.
Sarah immediately told her mother about her eyesight problem in reading the page numbers in school.
Sarah’s mother waited until the girls went home before sending her to the optician. The optician tested Sarah’s eyes and prescribed a pair of eye glasses for her.
Sarah turned as red as an apple. She apologized to her mother for ignoring her advice. “I shall take care of my eyesight in future,” said Sarah.
Do you know you can recycle spectacles? Donate your old specs to people who need to make eye glasses. They can re-use the frame to fit in new eye glasses.
The end.
