This is my Sunflower story in Children Fiction Books. This tale is part fiction and part nonfiction. Plants talk only in my world of Fiction Books. The nonfiction part is for children who study plant growth. Plants need water and nutrients to grow.
Farmer Brown has a very special plant in his garden. Tiny Tim grew out of humble beginnings. He was a teeny weeny weed struggling to live when he suddenly hit jackpot and experienced a growth spurt.
Tiny Tim was nurtured by chicken manure and fresh, cool water from the well. Tiny Tim’s roots absorbed the mineral salts from the manure and water, and brought them up to Tim’s stem and leaves. Tiny Tim ate up the delicious, nutrient rich staple diet and he grew taller and stronger. Pretty soon, Tiny Tim wasn’t tiny anymore. Tiny Tim, the weed, grew taller than most of his neighbors in Farmer Brown’s garden.
One night, Tiny Tim went to bed early in the evening because he felt uncomfortable. He had a headache and some body aches.
The following morning, Tiny Tim woke up feeling different. He had a buzzing in his head.
“Oooo … I feel bad,” Tiny Tim tried to take stock of his situation. “I feel like my head’s going to explode!”
As soon as he said that, a loud pop sounded. Suddenly, Tiny Tim felt as if he was relieved of the pressure which made him sick.
“Yo, everybody! See how my boy Tiny Tim has grown!” The old, wise Dandelion called out to the residents of Farmer Brown’s garden patch.
“Woo hoo! Tiny Tim is a sunflower!” Miss Daisy shouted with glee.
“Does it mean my name can’t be Tiny Tim anymore?” Tiny Tim was more worried about his name than what he had become.
Mr Dandelion said, “Sonny, we can call you The Sunflower Stalk, just like The Beanstalk in the fairy tale, “Jack and the Beanstalk”.
From that day onwards, Tiny Tim became The Sunflower Stalk, just like the beanstalk in Jack and the Beanstalk.
Have you got tiny plants in your garden? Do they look like Tiny Tims? If they are tiny, maybe its time for you to give them fresh water and manure!
