Jack wished he had money to buy everything he desired. He wanted delicious food from the McDonalds, Burger King, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Pizza Hut, and all the other eateries. However, Jack had very little money. He barely had enough to buy food to fill his growling stomach.
Jack used to stare with lingering desire at his friends who could afford expensive accessories, clothes, and electronic gadgets. Jack wished he wasn’t so poor. He envied his rich class mates whose wealthy parents bought them iPhones, iPads, and other fancy gadgets.
Jack wanted to borrow money from his rich school mate, Brad. One day, he chatted up Brad, to sound him off about loaning him some money. Jack wanted to feel the vibes on Brad’s reaction to his proposal.
Brad wanted to help his friend out. However, he was unsure about how Jack could repay his loan. Jack wanted nearly $1000, to buy an iPad.
Jack promised to pay his friend in monthly installments. He intended to sacrifice his pocket money to repay his debt.
Jack was extremely happy to have money in his hands to buy his iPad. He splashed on his iPad and as a result, he had no money to buy school lunches for the entire month.
Jack was starving very day in school. He began to develop gastric pains in his stomach. Jack tried drinking water to quell his hunger pangs. It didn’t help. His stomach growled louder and his pain grew worse. Then, Jack became too ill to even walk. He doubled up in pain.
Jack’s teacher noticed he was wincing in pain. When she tried to ask Jack what was the matter, Jack could hardly manage a grimace. She sent Jack to the sick bay, where the school nurse gave him a once over.
Jack was so sick, he felt like he was going to die. He told Nurse Susan that he wasn’t eating lunches in school, because he blew his lunch allowances on a purchase. Jack didn’t want to mention he borrowed money from Brad to avoid getting Brad into hot water for lending him money.
Nurse Susan scolded jack for throwing caution to the wind. She admonished jack for not eating, saying that he should have enough common sense to tell himself he could not possibly starve himself every day.
Jack said he was sorry for his faults. Privately, to himself, Jack knew he should not have gone a-borrowing, as now, he was sick, and certainly, he was a-sorrowing for making the rash mistake.
